Renewed NATO air strikes rock Tripoli while Gaddafi nearing his end !

NATO war planes are continuing to bombard the Libyan capital Tripoli, with large explosions echoing over the city.  (Photo; Bombed area in Tripoli)

At least three strikes in the early hours of Friday sent plumes of smoke over Tripoli, and the direction of the strikes suggested that either the compound of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya's embattled leader, or nearby military barracks were shelled.

After the strikes, pro-Gaddafi supporters fired assault rifles into the air and beeped their car horns in defiance.

The night strikes followed a total of 14 air attacks that were carried out on Thursday, considerably fewer than the heavy bombardment on Tuesday that flattened major buildings in Gaddafi's compound in the centre of the city.

Several Anti Democratic Regime MP's to Crossover to Oppostion ?

According some unconfirmed reports, several SLFP and some Muslim Pary Mp's are likely to cross over to oppostion in with in next few months. The Muslim Party is being heavily pressurized by many Democtratic Governments in Middle East to leave the anti democratic regime. Also some senior SLFP'ers are still unhappy about what they had being given and currently having discussions with some prominent figures in oppostion (in both UNP and DNA). Also some are not satisfied at all with the way thugs, Duminda Silva and Meryn Silva are being used openly to attack those who support the oppostion or going against the regime (Duminda Silva brought his thugs with poles to attack the protest rally in Lipton Circle orgainized by JVP, but with direct orders from top prevented them from attacking which would have put Gota in serious trouble as he is being the one charged with ordering the police to shoot the protestors earlier in Katunayake).

Many political analysts believe that the future of the current regime is likely to end very soon just like what happened in Tunisia, Egypt and happening in Libya (as well as Yeman) though regime is having a 2/3 majority in parliment. The main reason to come to this conclusion by political analysts is that the currently ongoing various strikes (against bogus pension scheme, Univeristy Lecturers Strike demanding salary hike, Other Trade Union Strikes etc..) against the regime backed by working people.

Don’t ever direct the guns against the people which you used on the terrorists says General Sarath Fonseka to the Army

Following requests made by the opposition, the International Parliamentary union has sent its special representative to monitor the proceedings of the cases that are being heard against General Sarath Fonseka in the Sri Lankan court.

Mark Trevor, an Australian national shall be monitoring the trials in courts against Fonseka from this week onwards. The foreign monitor in addition to the white flag case today , he had also followed the proceedings of cases on persecution of individuals, it is reported.

Nalin Laduwahetti the Lawyer for Fonseka told in court today when the white flag case was taken for trial that the CID officer who conducted the investigations against Fonseka had been an accused in two cases involving persecution and torture. But, the Attorney General had withdrawn the charges against this officer in view of Gen. Fonseka’s case . Ladduwahetti requested permission of court to forward the case records in that regard. Though the State counsel Buwaneka Aluvihara objected to this , the court however gave the permission.

Meanwhile Gen. Fonseka took advantage of the short recess he got to address the media which trailed him in the court premises . He regretted the Army is being utilized to attack the innocent protestors. He requested the Army not to turn the guns against the people which were used against the terrorists.

New species found in Madagascar

Between 1999 and 2010, the World Wildlife Fund (now better known as WWF) discovered 615 new species in Madagascar, one of the planet's richest tropical habitats. Many of those species, however, are endangered due to deforestation, illegal wildlife trade and other factors. One of the species on the WWF's list is Berthe's mouse lemur (Microcebus berthae), which was discovered in 2000. Its average body length of 3.6 inches makes this lemur the world's tiniest primate.

Dictator Gaddafi lost control of Yafran while Freedom Fighters Gain Land !

Reports say Libyan Freedom Fighters have entered the northwestern town of Yafran, previously held by regime forces, as the NATO chief says he is confident that people across Libya can start preparing for a future without Dictator Muammar Gaddafi, the country's long-time ruler whi si being charged of war crimes as well.

Youssef Boudlal, a Reuters photographer in Yafran, on Monday said the town had been wrested by the freedom fighters.

"We are inside the town ... There is no sign of any Gaddafi forces. I can see the Freedom Fighters flags ... We have seen posters and photos of Gaddafi that have been destroyed," Boudlal said.

"We do not have details of what provided this breakthrough ... this is a town that has been held by Gaddafi forces since the start of the fighting," he said.

"But what we saw this morning was Freedom Fighters rolling into a town just 100 miles from the capital, really on the doorstep of Gaddafi.

"What propelled this to happen, we still don't know. But what we do know is that the clock certainly seems to be ticking on Gaddafi. This is really the first challenge to the city of Tripoli that we have seen in about four months."

US calls for 'immediate transition pf power' in Yemen

Amid reports of Ali Abdullah Saleh's possible return to Yemen, the US has called for an "immediate transition" of power. Speculation is rife that the Yemeni president's stay in Saudi Arabia, where he had surgery for shrapnel wounds suffered in an attack on his palace on Friday, might be prolonged as the kingdom tries to broker a power-transition deal.

"We think an immediate transition is in the best interests of the Yemeni people," Hillary Clinton, secretary of state, said on Monday. For her part, Catherine Ashton, the European Union's foreign policy chief, said she hoped Saleh will let his country "move on" while he seeks medical treatment in Saudi Arabia.

More than 450 people have been killed in the unrest shaking the nation of 23 million since late January.

The US fears that al-Qaeda's branch in Yemen could exploit the turmoil to strengthen its presence in the country, which it has already used as a base for plotting two attempted anti-US attacks.

Earlier on Monday, Abu-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, Yemen's acting leader, was quoted as saying on the Saba state news agency that Saleh's health was improving and he "would return to the homeland in the coming days". A Saudi-brokered truce was holding in Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, after two weeks of fighting between Saleh's forces and a powerful tribal group in which more than 200 people were killed and thousands fled.

The Saudi-led Gulf Co-operation Council urged all parties to work to end violence and said it was continuing its efforts to negotiate a power-transfer deal. But the ceasefire in Sanaa was at risk of unravelling on Monday as government supporters opened fire on opposition fighters in renewed clashes that killed at least six.

Youthful protesters, interpreting Saleh's absence as potentially permanent, continued to celebrate in Sanaa where they have staged anti-government demonstrations since January. "It's impossible for us to let [Saleh] come back. And those of his people who are still here had better follow him to Saudi," one of those attending a Sanaa rally.

"Who is next?" asked one banner held up by protesters in a sea of red, white and black Yemeni flags, referring to the wave of uprisings in Arab world and north Africa that has toppled the leaders of Egypt and Tunisia and inspired revolts in Syria, Libya and Bahrain. Saleh's departure could make it hard for him to retain control, although his close relatives still command key military units and security forces.

Saleh, a political survivor, has defied global calls to step down and survived the defection of top generals, ministers and ambassadors.

Who gave orders to the police to shoot? By trying to blame on inferiors entire Dept. fouled up: Ilangakoon's IGP appointment hangs in the balance

The Rajapakse regime higher ups trying to save their skins by making the two relatively lower rung police officers who are remanded as scapegoats in the Katunayake police shooting has caused deep despair and disillusionment among the entire police Dept . as well as the two Senior IPs who are in remand custody , according to reports reaching Lanka e news.

Hence , the two IPs , senior IP Ratnayake and IP Ranasinghe who are in remand are getting ready to expose in court the actual culprits who gave them orders to shoot.

A senior DIG who wished to remain anonymous speaking to Lanka e news , said , because of the camouflage measures resorted to in order to cover up and safeguard those true culprits , and the betrayal of the inferiors in the process , the police Dept. Govt. information officers, officers of the Inspectors grade and officers of the training divisions are bitterly disappointed and disgruntled .

The DIG while declaring that the Seeduwa police OIC went to the venue of the shooting on an order and asked who summoned the Seeduwa police when the Katunayake police officers flopped. Did the Seeduwa police OIC send his police group by an aircraft from heaven.? he further questioned. If the police Inspectors of the Seeduwa police are taken into custody , then how come the higher ups who gave them the orders are free? Obviously , because the true culprit- the powerful authority who gave the orders to shoot will be exposed that , without revealing the factual position ,the blame has been fastened on these officers in this hush -hush operation , the senior DIG further pointed out.

The CID made their records not in the daily record book which an ordinary police officer does, but in a page of a book pad. The CID officers who recorded the statements of the two Inspectors Ratnayake and Ranasinghe , ought to have pasted the pad notes , but in fear that these matters will get to be known , have so far not pasted them , he added.

Meanwhile at the media discussion held by the IGP on the evening of the 30th , he stated he did not give orders to shoot.

This confusion created due to the desperate cover up measures that are being invented ,the conflicts have so deepened that the present acting IGP Ilangakoon is also driven into a situation where he may be denied the IGP appointment . Ilangakoon is the most senior DIG at the moment. But he is a stickler for rules. He is popular for his not swaying and stooping to political influences . Hence , because of the fear that if he is appointed as IGP , the true culprits who gave the orders for the ghastly shooting is likely to get exposed, senior DIG S M Wickremasinghe who is in charge of the Presidential security division is to be appointed to that post , the DIG speaking to Lanka e news revealed .. He added that the President had remarked ‘ I have no faith in anyone now. I have faith only in Wicki’
