Sri Lankan Police Brutally Attacks a Buddist Priest and Taken in to custody. Is Sri Lanka heading for another Miyanmar?

A Buddhist priest (Ven. Biyagama Suseela Thero) who spoke against the humalating attack by the police together with government thugs on the demonstration held at Maharagama by Common Oppostion together with people for democracy to protest against the illegal arrest(abduction) of General Sarath Fonseka had being brutally assulted and taken in to custody by Maharagama Police.

A person who objected to the arrest of the Buddhist priest was brutally assaulted and taken into custody too. The journalists covering the event were abused in filthy language and threatened according to news sources from Maharagama.

Is Sri Lanka heading for the same situation like in Miyanmar? (In Miyanmar Oppostion Leader is in custody and so many priests as well as innocent people are brutally attacked & Killed)

Another Demonstration in (Maharagama) Sri Lanka had being brutally attacked by Maharagama Police and Government Thugs

On 11th Feb a group of Government thugs had arrived at the location and attacked the demonstrators as the demonstration was about to commence at about 5.00 p.m.At the same time police riot squad attacked the protestors with tear gas, baton charge as well as water cannon according to the sources from Maharagama.

JVP MP Sunil Handunneththi had arrived at the location to discuss with police officers but he too was targeted by the water cannon. The journalists who were covering the demonstration too were threatened and attacked.

Seven innocent people who joined the demonstration were arrested after brutally attacking them.

General Sarath Fonseka's Abduction by Military Police and the Protest against it

According to many sources it is a abduction. He was the main opposition candidate who was said to have won the Presidential Election 2010 in Sri Lanka but some Ruling Party members had altered the results it seems, in order for their ruling party candidate to further be in power. This has become thrue with the abduction of General Sarath Fonseka.

This is against both common law and military law acoording to well known lawyers in Sri Lanka. Also the funny side is that,if he is taken due to military law he should be kept at some Army building but now he is abducted and kept in a Nevy building. So this is thruly done in order to restrict General S F from signing the election pettion to be filed and to keep him away from contesting the upcoming General Election.

The most respected Mallwatte thero and Asgiri thero condemed the incident and criticized the responsible people for the abduction.

Also the massive protest against the abduction of General Sarath Fonseka was attacked by thugs of government infront of the police(they were protecting the thugs). When the protesters some how managed to chase away the around 30 -50 thugs who came, the police started to chase the protesters in which the police were unsuccessfull as the protesters did not leave the place.

Also their had being protests in all over the country and protests held in Ampara, Kaluthara , Galle,Matara and some other places had being attacked with tear gas by police(is this the so called democracy?).

Following pictures shows the protest against the abduction of General Sarath Fonseka (Second picture shows Anoma Fonseka[Wife of General SF] speaking to media personels. Somawansha Amarasinghe[Leader of JVP] , Kabir Hasheem(UNP), Thissa Attanayake(UNP), Ravi Karunanayake (UNP) and Dayasiri Jayasekara are also in the picture)

Following pictures shows how thugs attacked and how police protected them from protesters.

So is this the begining for another period of bloodshed like in 1971 and 1988?Will wait and see.

What is the Situation in Sri Lankan Politics?

It is only few weeks after the Presidential Election.According to oppostion coalition as well as individual's like Wikramabahu Karunarathne & Sirithunga Jayasuriya,it is a corrupted election and results are made up results. The incidents which occured after election day as well as the massive differnce of around 1,800,000 had created doughts not only in General SF supporters but also in most MR supporters too.

But any how Mahinda Rajapakse is the elected leader(again maharaja!)and he is the president for another (around) 7 years unless somthing happened to him.The upcoming parlimentary election is very likely to win by the UPFA coalition but will not get a large majority.

The oppostion is still has a good chance to get as much seats as possible in parliment and even not allowing UPFA to get majority in parliment,if they work hard.

It is likely that oppostion coalition will contest together under swann symbol but TNA will contest along. It is the only way that the oppostion can have a chance of giving a good fight to the UPFA.If UNF contest along,it is likely to get very few seats mainly due to Ranil factor(Who is very unpopular in South Part of Sri Lanka). Also JVP will not be able to get at least 10 seats if they contest along.

Also the oppostion party leaders should take undated resignation letters from all those who contest from their parties to avaoid (if any) crossing over to government side once they are elected.

With in UPFA their will be definitly a fights for preferential votes between it's own candidates specially in areas like Kaluthara,Galle,Matara and Kurunegala.(Colombo too will have but not that much). This is mainly due to MP's crossed over to UPFA from UNP up to now.

If we take Kaluthara as an example, see the number of head to head contesters of UPFA who are now parlimenterians:Rohitha Abaygunawardena,Mahinda Samarasinghe(Crossed Over),Rajitha Senarathene(Crossed Over),Kumara Welgama,Nirmala Kottalalawala,Nandana Gunathileke,Piyasiri Wijeynayake,Reginold Koorey(Likely to cotest)and Athuraliye Rathana Thero(9 already here). Also the new faces too will try to enter the parliment. The Kaluthara Electorate has only 10 seats. So maximun the UPFA can get is 6-7.

So we have to wait and see if the government can maintain the same amount of votes they secured in Presidential election.

See the following to get a general idea about who got voted in 2004 to parliment:
