Kiwis gets in to Semis - New Zealand Wins Quarter Final Against South Africa

New Zealand 221 for 8 (Ryder 83, Taylor 43, Morkel 3-46) beat South Africa 172 (Oram 4-39) by 49 runs

South Africa were cruising at 108 for 2 in the 25th over when Jacques Kallis played a shot which he shouldn't have played and greenies gold bowled out for 172. 


Kiwis were defending a mare 220 on a pitch which looked like a low score to defend with current reviewd power play systems but managed a easy victory over South Africa which again showd that they are still struggleing to get through Quarters and Semis in world cup history.


Both team played with spin heavy attack which further suggested that asian pitches does not suit much for quick pace bowlers (good for gentle pace bowlers) much...(Which made the downfall of pace heavy Aussies)


It was a day for Jacob Oram, took 4 crusial wickets and 2 catches and he was the man of the match finally....

UNP parliamentarian from Kurunegala Destrict Dayasiri Jayasekera has asked newly appointed deputy leader Hon. Sajith Premadasa to intervene in order to get him appointed as the National Organizer.


Although appointments were made to almost every key position in the party at yesterdayWorking Committee meeting, the appointing of a national Organizer has been postponed to the next Working Committee meeting scheduled to be held on Monday (28).

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake is going on pension with effect from today 24th (Yesterday)


The Deputy Elections Commissioner W. W. Mahinda Deshapriya with effect from today (25th) will take over the post falling vacant . Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya is a brother of former free media movement convener Sunanda Deshapriya.


According to the 18th amendment that was passed in Parliament recently , it is the next in rank , the Deputy Commissioner who shall replace the Elections commissioner when he goes on pension.

ENGLAND FRONTLINE SPINNER YARDY Missing the rest of the world cup !

England lost a fourth player from their original World Cup squad with the shock withdrawal of their 2nd front line spinner Mike Yardy, who is suffering from depression.

Just two days before the quarter-final against Sri Lanka, Yardy became the second England cricketer to admit to having the illness after Marcus Trescothick’s well-documented problems and immediately flew home to his wife and two children in Brighton.

His departure stunned the England camp, with the majority of the players having no idea that the Sussex captain had suffered from depression for ‘a  prolonged period’.

The coalition air effort to halt the Libyan dictators attacks on civilians continued into Thursday for a sixth day, with an airstrike in the Tripoli suburb of Tajura.


On Wednesday night, the dictators regime reported that military and civilian locations in the neighborhood of Al-Jfara and in the Tagora district of the capital had been struck by "crusading colonial" bombardment but they were unable to prove it. In response, Joint Task Force Operation Odyssey Dawn Lt. Cmdr. Jim Hoeft said "It is not likely that civilians were a part of any airstrike today."


He said coalition forces "have been using all necessary measures to protect the citizens of Libya from the violence and killing inflicted upon them by Colonel Gadhafi."


An opposition activist in Tripoli accused dictators state media of lying about civilian victims of the coalition airstrikes. For example, she said, she was accompanying a cousin to a hospital for medical care when she saw a TV producer asking some people to close their eyes and play dead and others to pretend they were wounded. Some of the "wounded," she said, were soldiers in civilian garb.
